Day 1, Wednesday: 18.09.2024
We’re welcomed by David and Cordula with all of the group, it was a nice time to discover the garden of each other, from Italy and Spain.
We spent the lunch time together in the small local restaurant, so fresh, so good !! Hummm…
Then, during the afternoon, we visited the « Kinogarten » in Vienna.
It is a kindly garden where the people organize some culturals events, like movies projections during good season.
It is a nice concept to join culture and horticulture, they invit indirectly the citizens to discover this garden and his biodiversity (aromatics and medicinals plants, bees…).
In the end of the afternoon, we enjoy to visit together with Flavio, Leo « Bello », Carmen and Enrique.
Day 2, Thursday: 19.09.2024
During the second day, we visit « LoBauer Innen », it’s more on the periphery of Vienna.
We walked like 45 minutes in the forest, at the edge of the river.
It is a big field divided between many associations with differents projects and initiatives, it’s really interesting.
For example :
« Women projects » with Helen where they decide each year what they would like cultivate. Everyone is responsible of his production choice (plants, vegetables…) and they share together.
« Philippines association »
Some people from Philippines meet together to cultivate and to cook products from Philippines islands. It’s moments to share their cultures.
« Cordula garden »
They make association recently but the community doesn’t want rules, this is a initiative really free where they cultivate what they want but they have to pay an annual contribution (i think) now and it’s a bit difficult to manage (if i understood well).
There are many associations in this area, some rent a plot and for some others it is free.
There are some socials initiatives for the children with horses, some artists have their locals to work at this place (we met a puppeteer, he made his hand puppets here for his show)…
There is a local veggie restaurant and a shop where the people can buy fresh local products.
There is a room where they can organize events, workshops…
Day 3 & 4, Friday/Saturday: 20&21.0.9.2024
I was the reporter on Friday of LaaerBergBauerInnen garden. This garden is located in the periphery as well, is a « CMA » Community Made Agriculture, there isn’t intermediary. The producers are the consumers.
The surface of the field is divided between each members, they choose what they would like cultivate without fences. It’s a real collective project. All the members pay a contribution each year.
It is a multicultural garden, the concept is to welcome everybody who wants to spend time with each other, to produce healthy diet, to experiment new things like solar cooking…
We made some foods on a solar stove with Irena, it was so good !
In LaaerBergBauerInnen, they organize the Earth Procession and they realize all the floats of the parade with the nature elements.
We prepared with them this procession, we made some flower crowns…and we participated at the procession until the old bakery factory, in the Reumann neighbourhood.
Then, we finished the parade to visit 2 or 3 more gardens.
I really liked this time when we met people and prepared together this event.
Day 5, Sunday: 22.09.2024
The last day before the departure, we were in Tigerpark district.
We met Astrid on the morning to visit 3 smalls community garden but we had time to 2 of them.
The first one was « Tigergarten » and the second, « Albertgarten ».
These gardens are divided on differents smalls plots for the local inhabitants : family, studiants…
Actually, there is no more plot available for newcomers, so if somebody doesn’t use, the association organize appointement to speak about.
They would like to open 24h a day but it’s not possible for the moment.
They organize a day where all the people of the neighbourhood can come, it’s a time to meet each other.
They have some politicals subventions (i think).
After lunch, we went back to the « Schraubenfabrik » to meet again Cordula and David for the last time.
We spoke about the feedback of the group about the week that we spent in Austria.
It was a nice time together to exchange about all the visits, the differents practices… with cakes, tea, coffee !
Then, it was the time to visit Vienna with the group, to relax in the park with Melanie and to went to the last traditional restaurant.
I enjoyed to speak 3 languages all the week but not german, sorry ! ☹
Day 6, Monday: 23.09.2024
On this final day, we head north of Seville once again to meet up with Raoul, Manuel and Jose Manuel.
Here, a garden has been created to protect the neighborhood from new construction.
A neighborhood largely populated by the older generation of rural dwellers, for whom cultivating the land is important. 230 individual plots and shared spaces, for schools, associations and gardeners training in new practices : the punk garden preserves the back !
After a fond farewell, it’s time for everyone to make the most of Seville’s last beauties.
