Learning Pathway 2

Intercultural Community Gardens

Welcome to the Online Learning Pathway on Intercultural Community Gardens! This course explores how community gardens are not just spaces for ecological cultivation but also platforms for social interaction, cultural exchange, and inclusive learning.

Our learning journey consists of three modules, each focusing on different aspects of intercultural community gardens:

  • Module 1: What is an Intercultural Community Garden?
  • Module 2: Creating Spaces for Diversity
  • Module 3: Implementing Intercultural Activities in the Garden

In addition to theoretical input, we offer various practical exercises (activities) that encourage reflection and application on both personal and group levels. We have also integrated videos to make the learning experience more engaging and dynamic.

One of the key messages of this course is that interculturality should not be seen as a problem or challenge but as an enrichment. In many contexts, “intercultural” is still framed as a contrast between “us” and “them.” However, culture is not a fixed entity—it is dynamic and multifaceted, even within the same society or community. Intercultural learning is relevant for everyone and can contribute to more inclusive and vibrant communities.

We are excited to have you on this journey and hope you find it inspiring! 🌱🌍

Module 1
This module introduces the fundamentals of intercultural gardens, their societal relevance, and their role in fostering social inclusion. We discuss the concept of interculturality, emphasising that it is not merely about “people from different countries” but also about how education, age, social backgrounds, and personal experiences shape culture.
Module 2
This module focuses on building safer and inclusive spaces. We analyse barriers to participation and develop strategies to make gardens more accessible for everyone. Key topics include creating welcoming environments, reaching out to new target groups and inclusive spatial planning.
Module 3
This module is all about practical application: How can intercultural activities, such as cooking workshops, storytelling circles, or community festivals, foster mutual understanding and participation? We provide insights into planning, organising, and evaluating such activities.

The GARDENISER ACADEMY platform is almost here!
